Product Details

The Audi DL501, also known internally as the **0B5**, is a **7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission** designed for Audi's longitudinal engine platform (MLB/MLBevo). Introduced around 2008, it was the predecessor to the DL382 and represented a significant step in Audi's dual-clutch technology.

The DL501 features a "beast" of a design, weighing over 300 pounds, and is built to handle high torque outputs up to **550 Nm**. It utilizes a dual-clutch drum assembly with two wet multi-plate clutches of **unequal diameters** (a key distinction from the later DL382's equal-diameter design). The transmission is structurally divided into two compartments with separate fluid circuits, requiring specific maintenance procedures.

Common issues reported include valve-body problems affecting the clutch cooling circuit and harsh shift shocks, particularly when coming to a stop, often related to software adaptation rather than mechanical failure.

Applicable Models (Gasoline & Diesel)

This transmission was widely used across Audi's mid-to-high range vehicles from the late 2000s to the late 2010s:

**Audi A4/S4** (B8: 2009-2016) — 2.0T, 3.0T

**Audi A5/S5/RS5** (B8: 2008-2017) — 2.0T, 3.0T, 4.2L

**Audi A6/S6** (C7: 2011-2018) — 2.0T, 2.8L, 3.0T, 4.0T

**Audi A7/S7/RS7** (2010-2018) — 3.0T, 4.0T

**Audi Q5** (2008-2017) — 2.0T, 3.2L

*Note: The DL501 was replaced by the more efficient DL382 in most models after 2016, though some continued using it until 2019. Unlike the DL382 used on mainstream models, the DL501 was often reserved for higher-performance variants (S/RS models) and carried the heavier "quattro" all-wheel-drive system.*
